Ed, I generally think the same about standard CF stages, in fact even SRPP sounds better to my ears when the drive is taken from the plate of the bottom tube instead of the cathode of the top. However in my experience White CF doesn't suffer from the CF characteristic sound and that's backed by incredibly low measured distortion throughout the entire spectrum. The important thing is its ability to drive almost any load you can throw at it. I chose the 6C45P for this stage partly because of it's low rp, partly because its a very linear tube to begin with, which is reflected in its sound but also because of its 400V HC rating making it an ideal candidate for this application.
As for the Siemens CCa and Russian 1578, sound wise these are two of my favourite tubes in the world. Anyway, I could go on and on.
I'd love to meet you some day, which may actually be possible. Although I live in Australia I frequently visit friends and business partners in NC and occasionally attend Security Industry trade shows in Las Vegas and NY. What part of the country do you live in?
Regards,
Naz
