I haven't matched the tubes at all. There is some variation in the current between tubes but it's not huge.
One of the tubes I tried was crappy so I replaced it with another. I'm not hearing any really noisy tube yet.
I think the idea of comparatively massive parallelism is that the imperfections and differences between tubes gets averaged out.
Incidently, it was the May 2007 issue and the article was by Joseph Norwood Still. In his article he claims approx 10 watts per channel. I'm not yet running with as quite as high voltage or current as he suggests, so I am not getting that kind of wattage yet.
