Last weekend I fired up my latest creation which is based on an article in AudioXpress from about a year ago that had five 12B4As per side.
I had doubts about the paralleling having read similar comments about current hogging but it was cheap enough to do as an experiment. However, I also remembered there was some CJ linestage a few years ago that used a bunch of tubes in parallel that was well reviewed.
I deviated from the article of course. Initially I tried using a 5687 as the driver but didn't get enough gain. I then rewired for a 5965 and that is giving enough gain. Originally I tried doing a DN2540 LM317 ccs on the driver using the ccs article from the same magazine but it only worked in one channel so I went back to the simple plate resistor to initially get the whole thing working.
So far it is sounding promising. I don't get the sense of smearing in the sound.
