I own a parallel single-ended amp (Audionote Kageki (2a3s)) and think it is absolutely terrific. But, that amp has been thoroughly engineered for PSET operation, including transformers that are designed specifically for such operation. For all of that, it puts out a whopping 6 watts.
I know a designer of tube gear that has tried to build PSET amps, and he said he could not get one to work properly, and he has a LOT of experience, knowledge and creativity. He said that one tube in any pair, no matter how closely matched, would end up "hogging" and doing all the work. By the way, he has heard my system and amp and agrees that it sounds fantastic, and admires what Audionote has accomplished.
So, it appears that one would not easily solve problems by trying to implement, on a DIY basis, a PSET solution.
