Hello Cycles2,
845 based SETs are usually noted for their deep and authorative bass from an SET. Typically when using an SET that has 845s as power tubes, bass is not compromised at all! Approx five years ago I purchased an Italian Mastersound Reference 845 integrated SET (photo above) 40W/ch and 135LBs! It uses Mazda "chrome-plate" 6189/12AU7WA in place of the stock 12AU7s > Bendix 6900 in place of the stock 5687WBs > and paralleled 845B in place of the stock 845s. I can promise you the bass is not compromised at all. In fact it is the best amp I've ever heard. Please note I did not say it the best amp that's made, but only it's the best amp I've ever heard.
One truly amazing thing happened when I bought the Mastersound. Without knowing it at the time, I had jumped off the upgrade bandwagon. Before owning the Mastersound I never went over 3 years without upgrading an integrated amp, amp or preamp. However I've owned the Mastersound for 5 years now and have not the slightest inkling of changing it.
Now you know why SET owners gush over their amps and why all the verbal abuse from naysayers as to an SET actually being more of a distortion making machine than an audio amplifier, hasn't the slightest possibility of changing your opinion. Once you've heard and have been biten by the musical rightness of an SET's sound, it's almost impossible to go back to prefering the sound of other topologies.
I'm very happy for you and wish you many long hours of musical enjoyment with your new 845 based Monaco SET!
