Good call on the ripple and current changing. I also played around with 5AR4 vs CV378, which made things change just a touch.
I just dug through my stash and found a number of 5W .2 and .15 resistors. Not rated high enough to run for long periods, but fine for a test. For testing purposes I just started adding them in series until I got what I need. I get just a hair over 5V when the resistors total 1.4 Ohms. This was true with a fresh WE300B and a 10 year old 300B.
Now I think I'll order the following 12W mills resistors
1.5
For trying in parallel:
2.5
2.7
3
I'll dial it in perfect or just a hair under 5V.
Here's another thing, when I killed power to the amp the channel running at 5V died down faster than the one at 6V. Why would that be? Mind you, I'm running MP3 player into the amp into some $20 radio shack 2 ways. I'm only listening for some kind of music coming out and lack of buzz/static, nothing hi-fi.
