I agree that running tubes hard to get a modest increase in power level does not make sense. But, I know people who have used that amp for many, many years on one set of tubes. In each case, the amp had WE tubes in it. In all of the amps I've come across that run WE, the tubes seem to last a very, very long time.

The only "quality" issue has to do with poor gluing of the base to the glass envelope. I have that problem with some 2a3 tubes myself, but that is easily corrected/prevented by gluing the base more securely (I use high temperature silicone rubber, others I know use crazy glue).
