A few of the WE data sheets I have seen make a cryptic comment about the lifetime being compromised by operating "at maximum conditions". The maximum conditions are usually listed as 100mA current, 400 or 450v plate to filament, and 36 or 40 watts plate dissipation. I seem to remember a WE specification of 20,000 hours, reduced to 10,000 hours when operated at any of the maximum conditions, but I can't find that reference right now.
