Guys,
Having searched this site trying to draw some conclusions around 300B tube-life expectancy, I feel that it is clear that notwithstanding external abuse, the largest determining factor around 300B tube-life is the integrity of the actual 300B circuit design within which the tube is asked to operate.
So let's get specific about that; then as a group we can build an overall picture around the integrity of the many SET 300B commercial designs on offer out there... and which ones should be avoided!
Therefore, please state which exact amp year, brand and model you are running; and state what approximate tube-life you have been experiencing from your 300Bs? [It's probably more helpful if we forget about the many home-bake designs out there that are not commercially available to the group]
You might also like to mention which tubes you've tried.
I'll go first...
1997 Cary CAD300SE Signature Monoblocks
Average 300B tube life: 6-12 months
Tubes Tried: Cetron, Svetlana, JJ, & KR soft
My awesome sounding amps spend a lot of time in the cupboard... while I save for new tubes!
