Tried aluminum wire, and screen door springs (both same section ... Home Depot), for 300B dampers, years ago (and retired around the same time). Making a kind of hat/positioner with the wire (cross/X shaped), draped over the top of the tube. Pulling up (against the expanding taper), a loop/circle of spring. Did they work ... maybe? Worth the trouble/greater enjoyment ... don't know (if infinity splits does it make a sound?). But it did fulfill my then OCD desire to damp the heck out of everything in sight (now of course waned). 300B amp now rests on three large steel springs, as it has for years. Worth the trouble ... don't know. But I don't think it hurts either.
Signed, no hat but a cushy seat.
