I would not call a company that sells a "passive preamp" serious. I call it a racket.
Sorry for coming of as a prick here, but if you do not know why a 45 and 2A3 sound different, you need to read a book. That is not aimed to anyone in particular.
When it comes to minimalist SETs (the ones that tend to be most popular), the sonic qualities come down primarily to the components (tubes, transformers, etc.) and PSU. I am not saying Shindo's 300B amp is better for it, but Shindo's amp is designed or tailored to sound the way it does. It has to be. Shindo uses pentodes, which means he has to use NFB and take other considerations into account. (It measures infinitely better than any minimalist SET.) I have not heard it, but would assume it is a very dynamic amp. A Shindo pre and power amp combo should sound very different from the passive-power combo of Serious Stereo.
