My speakers are large ESL / line array combos and what you describe is exactly what I got when I modified my 845s to take 211s. At first I thought it may have just been the particular 211 / VT4s I used. I'm also currently using the 845Ms but the standard Chinese tubes are'nt bad at all for the money.

It's also not hard to change the character with some tweaking and I consider my amps very well balanced ... not dark and certainly not lacking HF response. I think 845s are a great match for ESLs and and many horns ... in fact any speaker that can benefit from a little extra weight to balance an upper mid or lower treble accentuation.

Rgds,
Naz
