The attenuator on my Ongaku Neiro is the worst part of it by a long shot. I have used it to connect the source direct to the amp and the sound is not at all good compared to my passive dave slagle autoformers or my active preamp. I open the Neiro's attenuator right up and forget about it using a preamp for attenuation . In other words I would not see a problem if it was not working properly because it is always fully turned up.
