Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

Re: 6dj8 parallel pushing EL34 SE in triode mode

The EL34 "works" with about Ia=64mA, Ua-k=343V and Uk=30V. For full output, driver must "supply" 30Vp=21,2Vrms AC signal. With todays high output sources (say 2Vrms for CD), our driver must have A~10,6 minimum, preferably little more. Then you can use many good quality "medium mu" tubes as a driver, for example 5687/ECC182/ECC99/6N30P "family", then 6SN7 "family"(6J5GT, 12SN7, 7N7, etc.), and various others, (even 6DJ8):-). "Ordinary" common cathode RC coupled stage can have A~12...15, and CCS or choke loaded ~mu of the tube (17...20 in those examples). You can use SRPP or Mu-follower stage, too. The high input resistance of the output stage (Rg=470k) is easy to "drive", you can even decrease it a little, IMO- there`s no need to parallel suggested triodes, they have "low enough" rp. You can increase the value Za=2k5 of the OPT to 3...5k - little lower power, but higher damping factor and lower distortion.
Try the search on DIY Tube Asylum, many ideas... If I remember correctly, Bas Horneman has similar amp with 6N1P driver.
