After re-reading my posting, I realized I made a typo. To clear things up, the speakers are closer to the flat short wall - the two lengths are BEHIND me. Sorry for this confusion, if any.
Question - if sitting in the width-centre of the room cancels bass, how does one create symmetry of the image if the speakers 'should' be identically placed on opposing sides of the room?
Although my room is semi-dedicated (an oxymoron, I know), I can't put the speakers half-way into the room, either lengthwise of widthwise. I'd be testing the limits of my relationship with my GF.
I tried 1/5 the room width and 1/3 room length positions this past weekend. Sounded better than what I had before, but I couldn't produce a graph since I have back the SPL meter I was borrowing. Definitely has a wider soundstage and a bigger image.
Much of this is moot, since the two of us will be moving next week into a new apartment. However, this will give my better insight to placement of the speakers in my next room. Thus, I'd like to keep this post going.
I can be more flexible as the room the system will go into is bigger - 10ft high, 11ft wide, and can be either 13.5 or 20 feet in length (the bedroom opens with wide french doors into the den, I would remove the doors to make one larger room). Putting the speakers against the length will be tricky; there would be a 17" 'arch' that would be created by the vacant doors.
I'm gonna try to scan a copy of the floor plan of this suite and post it later. Please bear with me.
