Your picture is exactly what I had in mind for the rear corners... but if I put panels on both the door and the rear wall, I think I won't be able to space them much from the wall. I'll measure tonight, but I think I will have only 4" total room to play with between the door and the wall when I have the door open 90 degrees.
I hear you on the rear wall thing. I can pull my chair out a bit to avoid the peaks and nulls to some degree, but then I need to worry about the reflection time to the rear wall. When the back of my head is at the wall, the direct sound and sound reflected from the rear wall are very close time-wise. The more I sit away from the rear wall the more the reflected sound is delayed. 'Course that's where some absorbtion can come into play. Maybe some 1" panels on the wall?
