understanding dBFS

Hi,
I am looking at the frequency spectrum of some microphone measurements that I have done. I am having some trouble understanding the concept of the decibel full scale (dBFS) amplitudes in the measurements. I understand that 0 dBFS is the max. possible amplitude such as to avoid clipping. However I want to be able to add the amplitudes of the various peaks in my spectrum (for some other analysis). What are the rules for adding these amplitudes in the dBFS scale?

Thank you.
