using foam for a start

I'm a newbie at this and wanted to know if it made sense to experiment with foam (easy to get) of different densities (20,40 and 60), before moving on to rookwool which is hard to get in sheet form.

would it make sense to combine foams of different densities (least on top) to create a 6'x3' panel, about 4" thick behind my speakers and wraping it around the corner. What frequencies would this absorb compared to a rockwool panel?

I have a 15'x12' acoustically skewed room, with a wooden panelled roof sloping down one side along 12' wall. I have french windows (which stay open most of the time) along one of the longer walls, and an 8'x7' opening on the opposite side into a large vaulted living room. Walls are 9" thick brick with plaster, celing is concrete above the wood, and the floor is cement tiles.

The speakers consist of sealed DIY MTM's for the mid/highs, which sit on two 15" subs. The subs and MTM's are isolated using cones and are constructed from thick MDF and real wood (no resonance from the cabinets).

The system is placed along the 12' wall, and the speakers are about 30" from the back wall and about 18" from the miniscule side wall, and have been positioned to get the best possible sound. And I almost forgot, I have a 25" TV between the speakers

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Kedar
