Here's what Olive and Toole say in their paper:
"Real listening rooms are not anechoic, nor is there likely to be only one significant reflection. The next logical step in this progression of experiments is to examine the audibility of a 'target' reflection in the presence of increasing amounts of room reflections. We have chosen to use a lateral reflection as a test signal. This can be interpreted as a single component of a room sound field, or as a cross-channel delayed component in a stereo or surround-sound system."
The experiments that followed examined image shift thresholds for speech, using a single loudspeaker and a single reflection. The experiments were carried out in the anechoic chamber and the IEC room, both treated and untreated. At no point they used more than one single loudspeaker. So I wonder where the basis is for Everest to write that "Olive and Toole investigated this and found that the effects obtained from a single loudspeaker are directly applicable to the stereo case."?
