This is simply wrong! The graph in Figure 1 of THIS article clearly shows the degraded frequency response when reflections are not absorbed.

Yes, but the phantom center is improved even more when reflections are absorbed.

I suspected as much. :->)

I suggest you at least try side-wall absorption, then let us know what happened. Or, if by chance you live anywhere near me, you are most welcome to come by for a visit and demo.
