Ethan,

The art part I agree with, but then you should declare it like this, better and worse and "I haven't found anyone yet who prefers a lack of absorption" are preference issues. If you prefer toobed gear that's fine but does not mean that toobes are better in objective terms. The science part is neutral and objective and there's your problem: there is no science that shows that reflections are detrimental!

>From my perspective, the increase in clarity with absorption at all reflection points is very easy to hear.<

That's funnny because speech research comes to the opposite conclusion.

>Without absorption the sound is clearly heard coming from the speakers.<

When sound is reproduced through two loudspeakers a phantom source is formed between the two loudspeakers. This effect is known since long and when your speakers are not capable of producing a phantom source then there is a problem which may not be related to reflections. I don't have acoustic treatment other than the ceiling and phantom sources are formed between the loudspeakers. The location of the phantom source even changes slightly on some pieces of music when I connect my CD-player directly via AES/EBU to my speakers (thereby by-passing the player's DAC and the speaker's ADC) as compared to routing the signal via the analog preamp.
