Yesterday I used a Radio Shack sound level meter (C weighted, fast response) to measure the 1/3-octave warble tones on the Stereophile Test CD 2 (tracks 16 - 18).My listening room (15wX18lX12h) is part of a very open area in the center of the house (south Florida style). The measurements over most of the audio bands were 80 - 82 Db, but there were spikes at 100Hz. (85 Db) and 200 Hz. (84 Db), 500 Hz. (83 Db), 5K Hz. (84 Db), 6.3K Hz. (83 Db). I'm assuming these can all be ultimately controlled by absorbers and deflectors placed at all the early reflection points.
But I also found holes at 315 Hz. (78 Db), 800 Hz (75 Db), 1000 Hz. (78 Db) which surprised me. Does anyone know what can cause this and how to potentially treat it?
