output voltage setting

I haven't tracked down that old post to check, but I think what happened was that I was trying to obtain best results by setting the output voltage while checking for lowest output %THD. At the time I was seeing incoming AC at ~250V (if memory serves) and so lowest output %THD was achieved with output set around 243V. I found that this didn't give the best sound and, in any case, I prefer to set voltage closer to 230V (which always seemed preferable on the old P500 and is, after all, the standard in Australia now - I believe that when they changed the standard from 240 to 230, they simply changed the acceptable tolerances to be weighted above 230 so that all the old 240 supply infrastructure would still be 'in spec'). 230V is also standard in the source countries of my components.

Anyway, I must have found that 236V gave me the best balance at the time. Going further towards 230V gave me such a V differential that the PPP's distortion reduction fell off (I guess). Since then I've seen incoming AC vary between 230V and 255V, normally lower in winter (presumably due to load from local home heating) so the output setting of 236V may not have been optimal all of the time. It may have even changed with further burn in on the unit. I get so little listening time at the moment that I'm loath to spend too much of it tinkering - I just want to get on with listening, but I continue to frustrated when I know the system is close, but not quite in 'the zone'.

Hum has been very bad the last few nights! I've read your other post with interest and will drop a note up there too.
