My guess is the switching power supply in the box. Most computers and similar devices have pretty crude SMPS feeding their circuitry and rarely are these SMPS PFC corrected or gentle on the incoming AC.

As you probably know, a SMPS chops the incoming AC as the first step and this can lead to some nasty lower harmonics which are read as THD.
