Does it have to be 12 volts? I ask this because there are few if any 12 volt inverters that aren't simply awful - in fact, if there's a good one, I don't know about it.

However, if you're willing to tinker a bit, you could find yourself a good off-the-shelf sine wave UPS. I included a link to one from Tripplite. It's basically the same thing the guys who claim to be building our "competition" use. It's called a double conversion sine wave model which means it always stays on and generates a sine wave. I think it runs on either 24 volts DC or perhaps 36. You can pretty easily figure it out by looking at the number of batteries and seeing how they are wired - in series or parallel. Most of the ones I've seen are in series, which means the voltage of each battery is added together to create a higher voltage. So, if they are using 12 volt batteries and there are two of them in series, it's running off of 24 volts.

All you need to do, in that case, is replace the batteries with your DC supply (or whatever you're doing) and don't plug this thing into the AC socket. It'll produce a reasonable sine wave - maybe 1% with some switching noise - but a heck of a lot better than anything I've seen for an inverter.

Place this into the Power Plant and it'll be perfect.
