Yes, you have it. Think of it as you might water. We can take dirty water and filter it with some good results. We can boil the water turn it to steam and then back again as pure water. The latter is better than the former.

But the analogy only goes so far. That is because what is wrong with the AC can NEVER be repaired with filtering. To fix the AC you need to add energy back into the sine wave. The easiest and most effective way to do this is as we do: by regenerating a new sine wave.
