critical link fuse question

I notice that the critical link fuses are gold plated, I have found that gold tends to carry a sonic signature that is not good.

copper : good
single crystal copper : better
silver: very good
gold : very bad

Would it be possible to remove the gold plating from the fuses with metal polish?
