Yup, I agree in general. However, I might add that most people buy their stereo systems backwards in terms of importantce in product. AC power is typically an after thought or the last purchase to clean up something after you've made your equipment selection.
I believe quite strongly that AC power is the foundation of the entire system and I've said it more than a few times. Get that right first. Build a solid foundation of clean regulated AC power. Then, and only then, go out and start evaluating equipment to purchase and add to build the system.
I realize that very few people start with a clean slate so this advice, as well as Skytag's, has to be taken in context with your situation. However, had you a clean slate, there's no question in my mind of the order of things.
