Oz,
the GCA500 is 500 watts/channel in 8 ohms and 1,000 wattschannel into 4. With my spkrs basic impedance of about 6 ohms, it puts out somewhere around 750 watts/channel. Massive power reserves.
My tube amp in all pentode mode puts out 150 watts/channel, but can switch between all triode and combination pentode/triode on the tubes, if desired. With KT-90 tubes, it can put out close to 200 watts/side.
On my P600 wattage draw on the display, it would register around 450 watts when on as a constant draw. the P600's display was not accurate, so it could have been more or less, actually. However, the 600 ran very hot with the amp as it ran a constant current draw on the 600. Be that as it may, the 600 acquitted itself with aplomb and sounded just gorgeous with the amp. Rock solid image, gorgeous, sweet open highs, perfectly reproduced midrange with bloom and body galore. One could actually see/hear a singers body around the voice. It was spooky. As great as my modified GCA amp is, it misses this last word in midrange body, but it comes very, very close (only after highly modified including black gate NX caps on the boards) to the tube body and bloom.
If you are concerned, Oz, and/or want to discuss with PS Audio which way would be the best to go with, given your amp and setup, I suggest emailing Paul direct or barrows, the customer service mgr at barrows@psaudio.com. Barrows is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Paul is very, very busy at present, flying all around the world and working on the newest additions to the PS Audio line up (new disc drive, digital lens II, etc.), so Paul wouldn't be readily available to help you.
Best,
Odd
