Re: Try matching A-B volumes next time

I once A-B'ed speaker cables, and was wondering why one set seemed "louder" than the other. I then used an SPL meter with some test signals, and the levels were exactly the same. I think all things being equal, a more-distorted (or less-linear) signal will be perceived as "louder." This often fools the listener because "louder" is often equated to "better." (I don't think the cable itself introduced more distortion, but the amplifier/speaker interface with that particular cable produced a more-distorted signal.)
