Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Gee, Dan -- you don't get out much, do you?

Haven't you ever heard of TO-3P? This the Japanese designation for something that looks pretty much like an oversized TO-220. The US designations for similar packages are TO-247 and TO-264. All of these have the die soldered to a *copper* plate. There is no steel at all in these packages. Which is why many consider them to sound better. Which is why many use them instead of the older TO-3.

If you are using steel-cased transistors, that might help explain why you don't hear any difference with steel wiring -- everything is already "steely" sounding. But like I said, it's a free world - suit yourself, and use whatever materials you like in your products. At the risk of being repetitive, please don't be surprised when people that can hear the difference don't buy them.

Best regards,
Charles Hansen
