Having grown up with an English major for a Sister, I expected something along this line, but you have exceeded my expectations! Iffins I can't discuss the meaning and role of empiricism in engineering nor quote Shakespeare what's left? Perhaps I could just discuss it a little, after all brevity is the soul of wit.
By the way, I wasn't impugning your sources, I was merely trying to describe my frame of reference and interject a little low humor.
I understand, I think, what you are saying. If so, we almost agree so here it is in my words: When audiophiles discern changes to their system's performance as a result of changing part of it, they often ascribe them to a particular mechanism without going to the effort of verifying that the putative mechanism is actually operative and dominant.
That's the end of my take on it, but I would add that some others doubt the judgement call itself and frequently assign it to bias of one form or another.
This may be one of those topics that just doesn't do well via TTY and needs to be pondered in depth over a pitcher of beer beside a river. Come do some research at the Knight library now that the runners and flingers have ran and flung and before the rains return. The gentle flow of water over the rapids and beer under the palette is highly conducive to taking the proper measure of these weighty matters...
