I am not convinced of anything. Just trending my observations that have led to a hypothesis or two and that these papers reach somewhat similar conclusions. I think by now it should not be terribly surprising when people claim an ultra low distortion amp doesn't sound good. Supposedly that distortion is "so low" as to be inaudible. Or is it? The correlation from Geddes with THD suggests otherwise, as does the results from the other paper from AndyC that he posted in the thread about Class AB amps a short time ago. In fact, they even hint at why it seems that in fact it is the opposite of what one would expect, ie. the lower the distortion the worse the sound (they both get slightly negative correlations). Of course its not the THD per se its the underlying mechanism resulting in the THD (ie. the circuit design and thus the transfer function).
