..but what can you do? It's the kind of thing that I don't seem to have much leverage on. Maybe pro equipment is the way to go?

I had Pat Tobin work over a VM 1448 amp with terrible hum. By reworking the grounding, he squeezed the hum out of it. That was a 1966 vintage amp, but I have similar problems with stuff being built today.
