I can't see spending money or time on a lot of these harvester gadgets when there are good balanced power conditioners like Equitech out there. I think a balanced power system is about the most cost effective noise reduction tweak out there. I got rid of a lot of ground loop noise by getting rid of the mixture of interconnects and going to Bluejeans coax throughout.
There was still a little hum, but adding the Equitech Son of Q killed the hum completely. It's like night and day. If it wasn't for hiss from the preamp, I'd think the system was turned off.
I've got some horrible intermittent noise, like something is arcing upstream from me (I hope it's not in my house or heat pump!) This noise comes and goes, one burst every 4 or five minutes. I thought it was in my main rig, but it's on the bedroom system too. The Equitech seems to completely kill this noise, too.
Cables are no more than half the solution. Balanced power is the other half. A lot of the funny current pollution problems caused by motors and power supplies can be cleaned up with balanced power.
I looked at a Rane white paper, and they only covered one possible solution: balanced connections and cables. That's OK on pro stuff, but I've got two power amps with balanced inputs;nothing else in the system has them. I was amazed there was no mention in that noise reduction white paper about power conditioning, balanced or otherwise. It was like,"Balanced connections solve ALL noise problems."
