You forget one thing the LED is BLUE.
As we all know that blue leds are for hi-end equipment only - (or so it would seem from the last Hi-Fi event i attended). Green is for bottom-midi-"midrange" (aka consumer crap) systems and red is for botton end cheapo lo-fi.
At least the punter can be assured its doing something when the blue "highend" light is on.
But $100 is still a lot of money for a capacitor and resistor and maybe a MOV.
