I'm having a hard time believing.
"When the "slider" was placed near the termination the phase of the current at 100 Hz measured -7 degrees. When the slider was placed in the middle of the line cord the phase of the current measured -25 degrees."
What's the mechanism? Whatever the slider is, it's location on a uniform cable whose length is essentially zero compared to the wavelength should make no difference. Do you suppose that it was affecting something in the "terminator". There's just got to be something more to this story.
