that further illustrates the challenge with cable issues. Cables are most often measured by themselves with declarations of inaudibility beyond some low thresholds of LCR metrics. The system is rarely, if ever considered. The Roger Russells of the world would declare the ICs used to be audibly perfect for that reason. Jerry's example, however, shows that the interaction between components is crucial as I certainly agree.
Another story
My VTL tube amps work wonderfully with my electrostats. Driving the double Advents, however, they are thick sounding and somewhat muffled. Very different character. Conversely, the Threshold Stasis that sounds wonderful with the Advents sounds thin on the stats. System matching.
