Yes, it's audible.
No, I've never bothered to measure it.
Yes, I was very surprised to discover it.
No, I would not have rejected the unit if I had noticed it during audition.

So I guess you could say it's a yes and no sort of thing. It's not gross when cold, just not as 'nice' as when warm.
