Very few solid state amps seem to need warm up to sound good--none of mine ever did.

Well, first of all good is a relative term. Listening to music on my cell phone sounds *good* (using Shure earbuds). According to folks who measure bias (like Nelson Pass) find optimum operation requires more time.
