E-Stat:
The point is that the rate of change of temperature as a piece of equipment reaches its steady state operating temperature is going to DECREASE w.r.t. time. Given equal time intervals from turn on, the net temperature increase in each interval will be lower and lower each time until it becomes negligible.
I should not have said "a few minutes" because I myself will often let a tube amp warm 1 - 2 hours before listening. But I bet an hour is plenty.
But overnight is a stretch - is all I was saying.
A VTL amp is built like a battle tank - it could be that a large amp like that has more "heat sinking" materials built into it which results in a longer warm up time. My 300B monoblocks heat up in no time - then again, with those large 300B tubes and very little chasis to speak of, this makes sense. There is not the same amount of "sinking" in an design like that. The transformers, too, heat up very quickly on those little amps - they are not oversized by any means.
Cheers,
Presto
