But they don't need hours of heating to work properly - a few minutes and they're likely up to temperature.
Your speculation is not supported by my experience. Sure the tubes get warm, but it takes about two to three hours for the bias in my VTL amps to stabilize. Nelson Pass waits an hour to perform any bias checks or measurements for his solid state designs for the same reason.
