It's certainly the case with me, as I'm sure with many others.

Item (2) from your list - I wouldn't know about that, since I've never tried to impress anybody with it. In fact, I don't even know anybody who could be potentially impressed with audio equipment, instead of thinking he's talking to a "weird" person.

You, on the other hand, seem to be on some sort of crusade to save audiophiles from themselves, which makes you somewhat different type of 'phile.
