Matching the whole kitten-caboodle :-) would really be the proper way, but problems are aplenty.
Making high z cables is a problem given maxwell's equations... But making input circuits low Z does tend to make the amp more susceptible to stray magnetic field coupling. Of the two interference mechanisms electrostatic and magnetic, only electrostatic is well defined and controlled....Magnetic interference and coupling understanding is a complete and udder (he he) failure....chaos. Ground loops, di/dt, db/dt...terribly misunderstood or just ignored. Commercial, hobby, industrial, professional...doesn't matter, nobody does it right (to any extent..some do of course, like HP, Tek, Agilent, etc....
Our penchant for using low Z circuitry while great for voltages, sucks big time for current induced errors.
