If you look through the archives of this forum you will find that Steve Eddy had a number of types of wire tested by an Audio Precision One. The only distortion that was found was the residual distortion of the local oscillator of the Audio Precision One. If anyone wants to send me an email address I will send the pdf file of the measurement.
If the power amp in your example is really giving added distortion in this measurement then the distortion is not from the wire but the amplifier "looking into" a more reactive load.
In short: wire does not have distortion, but amplifers looking into a reactive load will generally have more distortion than amplifiers "looking into" a resistive load.
