I think your logic engine needs a rebuild. The existence of the placebo effect doesn't mean that it's the mechanism behind all audio tweaks. It's just an influence. Even then it's not a consistent one. I'm actually inclined to look with askance at what I consider over-priced anything. Food, cars, audio gear, houses... It's usually clear and suspicious when high price starts becoming part of what they are selling.

But I do know some folks who really do believe that you "get what you pay for" and that "where's there's smoke there's fire" and that you can trust Oprah or creatures of her ilk to guide your life, taste and keep you in style. They usually aren't audiophiles and if they care at all know that Bose is the one without having to bother listening. I suspect audiophiles are less influenced by such things than most because they tend to trust their ears and not just someone else's opinion or advertising.
