"I have read and actually studied your posts on this subject, though it was a while back. Unless I've misunderstood, you're using a "whole system" grounding approach in which the signal ground and safety ground are only connected together at one point in the entire system - in the preamp. Further, you are able to do this because the preamp, power amp, and DAC are all of your own design. Did I get this right?"
Unfortunatly with grounding the "weakest" compnonet, as they love to say in audiophiliadom, will dominate and screw up the rest of the system. This applies not only to audio but the rest of electronic systems as well. Remember, unbalanced consumer is by definition ground referenced.
Yes my equipment is my design but the grounding scheme is at least 30 years old, if not older. This is textbook stuff Andy, nothing original here.
As for a sighted test, which I was there for, the other amp at higher power levels gave up audible upper order distortion, below that level it was fine. The other amp was rated for 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and the LNPA 150 is rated for 75 to 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms.
See link below.
As I have said a number of times, there are only two real issues with power amps; noise and distortion into a reactive load.
