Hello Kerr,
I have to admit that I don't know how this particular ABX box was built and SF tech is most likely correct that not all ABX boxes are built the same. That said I don't believe that any ABX, or any other component period, is 100% transparent. So like every other component the ABX box would most likely add some sort of charactoristic coloration to the sound and thus also to the interconnects, speakerwire or DUT attached to it.
As I've stated numerous times before the only way to remove additional distortions and colorations from interconnects, speakerwire or any other DUT when doing a DBT, is to have someone manually changing the wires! Of course this person doing the changing needs to be behind a curtain or wall of some sort so they don't accidently provide some visual or sonic clues. I realize it wouldn't be easy to set this up, but it would remove the insertion of an additional component and it wouldn't require using someone trained in doing a DBT with an ABX box either.
Strange as it may seem even though removing the ABX eliminates one ---not all--- of the subjectivists major concerns about DBTs the LFO here at PHP poo-poo this idea of manually changing wires as being a "weird-science" suggestion.
