While googling the 'loudness wars' somebody used this album as an example because it exists as vinyl, older cd and the current one.
In direct comparison the new one was clearly inferior precisely due to excessive compression,
the older cd better but the vinyl was easily the most dynamic and so natural sounding.

So for anyone who is deaf, likes background music to the exclusion of everything else or has a stereo which is severely lacking in output power the new one would seem to be ideal!

PS Eq is certainly not necessary to remove hiss from cds. My guess is they left the hiss to give the illusion of a more realistic re-master. Its all marketing in the end.
