Not sure if I get your point but...
The recording industry decided long ago how much potential of the stereo format they were going to require. As limited as this format is the industry only a rare occasions attempts to make use of it. The truth of the matter is that even midfi gear is overkill for recordings that push technically beyond the average/normal recording.
It seems clear to me that equipment that strives to be more technically accurate can do nothing more than to reveal the recording industry's interests as outline above as fact.
What audiophiles in general seem to ignore is the fact that even if the recording industry got in line and attempted to make every recording as technically good as possible it's still only going to be as good as 2 channel stereo can possibly be. And it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to realize these limitations.
We may wish and desire a place for serious technical conversation but IMO those desires are as ill-founded as the psuedo-science and marketing drivel that usually replaces it.
The majority of the audio buying community has rejected the concept of the absolute sound and those pushing that agenda had/have larger aspirations. Unfortunately "sound-bytes" of the pursuit remain, fragmated and misunderstood, polluting the minds of audio system buyers.
Because of the fuzzy nature of the recording industry's output and limitations of "stereo" it's only natural that the mystics, bull-shitters and marketeers rule.
Give me rhythm or give me death!
